Paean is a semi-literate Warriors roleplaying site with an emphasis on depth of character and effective plotting, set in a new territory with the four original Clans. It was orignially created in September 2016, and has experienced many different iterations. Paean once featured three tribes-- who may or may not return-- and a whole lot of worldbuilding; it is our hope that its newest form delivers in terms of quality!
We offer a detailed history, frequent plots and plenty of character-- all at After Dawn hope to see you join!

perhaps it was the thrill of the chase, or simply the fact that your father was a rule breaker, but your sire was determined to make your mother fall in love with him. the only problem? he was a riverclan warrior, and she was shadowclan. it didn't matter to him though. he had spotted her for the first time at a gathering, and from that moment on, he devoted as much of his time as he could trying to woo her. it was a daunting task, for obvious reason. they were separate clans, there was an immense amount of drama between the clans and your mother was unwavering in her loyalty to shadowclan. that is, until she wasn't. [break][break] when your mother found out she was pregnant, she was excited but devastated at the same time. you see, your mother had taken a shadowclan mate shortly after she decided to end things with your true sire. she knew that there was no possible way it could be the shadowclan toms - there was things that needed to happen first for it to even be a remote possibility. but your mother was faced with a decision all the same. abandon shadowclan in hopes that riverclan takes her in with her riverclan kits? or make it seem like the kits were her clanmates kits? the thought of leaving shadowclan for a tom who had broken her heart infuriated her, so she did what any she-cat would do: made sure that it seemed plausible for it to be her mates' kits. [break][break] you'll never be what is in your heart [break][break] you were born to a litter of four – two sisters, asterkit and cinderkit, and your brother, toadkit. asterkit is a pale grey tabby, with long fur like yours. cinderkit, is the epitome of beauty, with her gentle tabby pelt of silver. toadkit is a spitting image of your legitimate sire, a brown tabby with ochre eyes. you, are a grey tabby with a white muzzle and chest. you are named smokekit. for first two months, you all get along as well as siblings are expected to. you cuddle together at your mothers’ belly after feeding and groom each other. [break][break] for whatever reason, you wind up receiving the most attention from your father. your mother coos over all three of you, but your father has decided you are going to be his prodigy. your sisters don’t mind, asterkit is already talking about when she will be able to have a mate and kits of her own, and cinderkit just kind of accepts it. she is as strong willed as they come, and her confidence is already though the roof. toadkit, on the other hand, soon begins to resent you. all he wants to do is have his fathers interest like you do. you, are oblivious to his growing resentment. [break][break] by the time you are four months old, your brothers play fighting gets more aggressive. you still easily overpower him, but he is wiry, and he takes cheap shots at you. it’s frustrating for you as your large paws make you clumsy, and you simply can’t move fast enough to ensure that you stay on your paws. you praise your brother for his quick moves, and clever maneuvers, but there is nothing warm in his gaze as he regards you. when you look back at this time, it will become glaringly obvious that your brother hated you. perhaps if you had known, you would’ve been able to stop his downfall. [break][break] weep little lion man [break][break] the excitement that surrounds your apprentice ceremony is not shared by all of your siblings. asterkit is sad that she has to leave the nursery and is inconsolable, even when your mother reassures her that as soon as she becomes a warrior, and finds a mate, she can return. toadkit could care less, his self-pity becoming suffocating and the glares he throws at you are getting tiring. cinderkit and yourself cannot stop talking about it. [break][break] by the morning of the ceremony, asterkit has come around, and is starting to share the excitement. your mother is a frantic mess, trying to ensure that all four of you look perfect. your pelt is a mess, as it always is and by the fourth time she has attempted to groom you, you wiggle your way away from her and tell insist that you look fine. you sit outside the nursery waiting for the ceremony to start, and your mind wanders to all the great things you will do as a warrior. as many young cats, you dream of being leader. you think you have the skills to do it. you’re smart, strong, and capable. this dream will drive you through your apprenticeship. [break][break] your ceremony blows past in a blur, you nearly smack your head off of your mentors when you got to touch noses with her, and you are a bundle of unbridled energy. you’re practically bursting out of your skin as you tour the territory, soaking in all the sights, sounds and smells that assault your sense. by the time you get back to camp, your untrained body is exhausted but your mind is a flurry of activity. you lay awake in your new nest long after your denmates are asleep and just smile. this is the beginning of something great. [break][break] your first hunting lesson is a complete and total disaster. you are as uncoordinated as a baby deer, and you can’t seem to figure out how to keep your tail still. your mentor is a very patient, older she-cat and you are grateful for it, though you struggle to listen to her without questioning her on everything. your father built your ego, to the point where you feel as if you know everything. thus would birth your issues with authority. you try your best to listen during hunting lessons, because you know that you need to put in some serious work to get as good as possible, and your short temper begins to rear its ugly head.[break][break] you’re angry at your body for what it isn’t capable of doing. your siblings got it much better than you, all of them rather lithe and lanky, but quick on their paws and not nearly as clumsy as you. asterkit is an incredible tracker and hunter, a quick study and far more patient than you with her faults. both cinderkit and toadkit also excel at hunting, and you curse your parents for giving their size to you. you don’t just want to be an ok hunter; you want to be great, the best hunter the clan has ever seen. unfortunately, your genes are working against you. [break][break] you find yourself exceeding expectations in battle training. your sheer size and growing strength makes you a force to be reckoned with, and your mentors’ compliments and encouragement inflate your already large ego. you walk with your head held high, and dismiss your mentors’ comments. you believe there is really nothing that the senior warrior can teach you, but this comes with consequences. your blatant disregard, and disrespect for her lands you a meeting with the leader, deputy and your mentor. the meeting is long, and you begrudgingly agree to listen to her, but your disdain for the leadership of the clan continues to grow. [break][break]there is one thing that you can’t be faulted for – your passion. you train hard, despite your misgivings about your mentor and as you find your coordination and grow into your paws, you throw yourself into your training even harder. your hunting improves, though you will never be a great hunter, and your battle skills only grow. you are eager to go on border patrols, determined to ensure that your clan is as protected as can be, even though not much happens. it’s clear that you do not need to be trained how to be loyal, or have it explained to you the importance of loyalty. shadowclan is your home, and always will be. [break][break] as your warrior ceremony approaches, your brothers’ disdain for you rears its ugly head. [break][break] the day started out as normal as you have come to expect. you rose from your nest with a stretch, and a groan, annoyed that you still have to train even though you now fully believe that you know everything there is to know. you’re growing impatient with the entire thing, your longing to be a warrior growing stronger everyday. you met up with your mentor and sauntered after her as you made your way to the training area. your head is in the clouds as your mentor begins speaking. [break][break] “wait, what?” your brothers’ voice rings out from across the field. your gaze meets his and all you see is loathing. there is no love in toadpaws’ eyes, and ice runs through your veins. you missed what your mentor said, but judging by the look on your brothers’ face, and the change in his stance, you can figure out what she said. your heart sinks as your ready yourself. with a flick of your tail, you launch yourself into the fray, and your brother meets you with a ferocity you have yet to encounter. you collide, his claws sinking deep into your shoulder, ripping you down to your ribs and you gasp in pain as blood blossoms through your fur. [break][break] “toadpaw, stop!” blood pounding in your ears, you watch as his mentor tackles him and pins him down to the ground. he’s wiry, and is blinded by something foreign in his eyes that you have never seen and he slips away and comes at you again. this time you are ready. as he dives towards you, you strike out at him and send him flying through the air. he lands with a thump but gets back up and lets out a caterwaul. confusion and hurt boil through your system and you gather your haunches and launch yourself at him, striking him in the chest and sending him to his back. you feel the air leave his body as he hits the ground, and you pin his front legs and pant heavily in his face.[break][break] “what is your problem?” you hiss, as he struggles beneath you.[break][break] “get off of me, fox dung.” toadpaw snarls and tries to bite your leg, causing you to jump back. he scrambles to his paws and with his fur standing on end he stalks towards you with malice riddling his ochre eyes. “you are a disgrace. you walk around like you own the place, but you don’t. you are not better than everyone else, just because our father loved you more. I hate you. I loathe everything about you. I want to rip your throat out!” as he spoke, toadpaw’s voice raised in volume and he struck out at you, slicing through the long fur of your neck, but not reaching skin. [break][break] both mentors took him down, and held him until he stopped struggling. with your heart pounding in your ears, you lowered yourself to the ground and rested your head on your front paws as you waited for it to be over. you feared what would happen when you returned to camp, and when you walked in with your head down, you were met with stares. without saying a word, you went to the apprentices den and curled up in your nest, not bothering to see the medicine cat about your shoulder. you don’t want to relive what happened. the thought of talking about it makes your stomach hurt. [break][break]you’ll never be what is in your heart[break][break] “smokeheart! smokeheart! smokeheart!” becoming a warrior is bittersweet. your sisters have both received their names as well, but you each share sad smiles. toadpaw’s absence is glaring, though no one talks about it. he hasn’t been seen since that fateful day, but you will always have the scars on your shoulder to remind you of it. [break][break] you’re a strong warrior, arrogant and hot headed, but loyal to a fault.
