Paean is a semi-literate Warriors roleplaying site with an emphasis on depth of character and effective plotting, set in a new territory with the four original Clans. It was orignially created in September 2016, and has experienced many different iterations. Paean once featured three tribes-- who may or may not return-- and a whole lot of worldbuilding; it is our hope that its newest form delivers in terms of quality!
We offer a detailed history, frequent plots and plenty of character-- all at After Dawn hope to see you join!

stalking forwards, songthorn made his way through the territory, eyes darting back and forth. his nose twitched as he kept his senses alert, searching for herbs that were ready to be harvested. the stock had run low and he needed to rebuild it more after the cold seasons. his tail lashed and he grumbled to himself, head held low and pupils narrowed. this fucking place has nothing but shit, songthorn thought to himself, eyes rolling in disdain. "marigold," the tabby tom said aloud, ears flattening once he heard his own voice. it was raspy, thick with an accent, and sounded as though he hadn't spoken for moons. even so, as the herb came into sight, aongthorn made a sudden turn towards it and begam to gather up whatever he needed, being sure to leave enough to allow the plants to grow more. next, he dragged himself towards a small stream, setting the herbs in a safe place an beginning to gather moss for nests, drinks, and other uses that it had. after he picked it up, the tom realized he had no room left to carry whatever else he needed, having come alone on his trip. "fuck."

“Need help?” Badgerstar’s husky voice roused Songthorn’s attention as he pushed his way out of the thorny underbrush, his wide shoulders leaving the foliage parted behind him. He had been listening in as he approached, the frantic rustling and cursing under their breath had made him curious. When he finally tracked them down he was surprised to find his own deputy scavenging for herbs, though rather untidily. He couldn’t help but notice how disheveled the tom looked. It seemed recent events had made life hard on everyone. Of course, it was selfish of him to think he was the only one struggling in these trying times.
Badgerstar approached slowly, an ungraceful wobble in his stride as he tried to keep his weight off his lame leg. Though he were no spritely young apprentice, he was no less of a formidable foe. He brushed against Songthorn as he came to a stop by his side, plopping his rear firmly on the ground with a winded grunt.
“I didn’t realize you were away from camp.. Otherwise I’d have left myself at home.” He remarked with a rather bleak tone, his eyes regarding the deputy with a strangely warm glow. It was rare for him to be so agreeable. Such an enigma usually only occurred when the day was exceptionally kind to him and starclan knew his standards were high. But at this moment, it seemed, that Badgerstar had found someone to confide to. Or rather someone that had found themselves in a similar situation as himself. Both of them had responsibilities thrown at them that they didn’t want, or at least, were not prepared for. And somewhere in his cold, damaged heart a tinge of sympathy outgrew his hardened exterior. It was an odd feeling; one that he had not experienced in many many moons, but it wasn’t stranger to him. It, in a way, relaxed his old soul.
“You seem troubled.” He huffed, expectantly, praying his judgement hadn’t betrayed him. With an outstretched paw he nudged Songthorn encouragingly, though perhaps without much restraint of his own strength. He shifted his weight awkwardly. “I.. apologize if it isn’t my concern.” Badgerstar managed to cough up a half-hearted excuse for his insensitivity. More than anything he wanted the approval of those around him, though it may have been too much to ask in return for a poor attitude.
his form tensed as badgerstar came into view, the sudden voice startling the tabby tom and causing him to drop whatever he had in his grip. "dammit-" he huffed, leaving it there for the moment. "i guess you could say that." his voice, dripping with his accent, was low and disdainful, glaring at his paws under the look of the clan leader. once badgerstar settled next to songthorn, the medicine cat wrapped his tail around his paws neatly, fur brushing against the larger male's. "everything has gone to hell since the gathering. fuck, if i had been there, i'd be dead now, too!" he shook his head violently, a sigh breathing through his lips. "whatever. what's done is done, we can't bring them back."
songthorn allowed himself a snort at the leader's words, shaking his head with a soft chuckle. "aye, even the leader of the clan needs to have a break sometimes. especially with all the shit that's been happening lately," his tail flicked, "but if i catch you slacking more than working, i'll claw your ears, a'ight?" songthorn raised his paw and prodded badgerstar's shoulder in return, somehow keeping upright with the other's strength.
"yes, it may seem so." he paused for many moments, allowing the silence to drag on as he carefully nit-picked his words. "it's just-- my mentor was of the only felines that i really had left in the clan. my brother is the only family i have, too, but we never talk. he's off attempting to find any mate that he can try to impregnate while i'm here being shoved into the duty of the full medicine cat. i trusted them, and they were killed before i was ready to say goodbye," songthorn explained, strangely calm, "i guess i simply can't deal with that." his tail flicked, gently curling around badgerstar in a friendly manner, showing that he was comfortable like this, despite usually being a grumpy prick.

Badgerstar's eyes glittered with solicitude, a sympathetic smirk crawling across his grizzled muzzle. A smile? What an idiot.. He thought nervously, hoping he hadn’t come off as too dismissive. He flicked his ears considerately and gave a soft nod, trying to show some sort of understanding. “Yes.. I.. understand..” He ended it on a somewhat bitter note, uninvited memories flooding his mind, causing him to dwell absent-mindedly for a few moments. Badgerstar’s smile faded quickly as did his and his lips pressed tightly against his teeth. He did understand. More so than he portrayed with his superficial consolation, brittle and insincere. But he wouldn't mention it now- no, it would be selfish of him. He wasn't Starclan's little pet; not everything had to focus on him, he knew that much now. He was in debt for his many moons of arrogance and knew what had to be repaid, though he still felt other didn't give him his due.
A sudden rush of contempt and ire hit him like lightning. It was so disgustingly unfair. Starclan had herded the clans like sheep to be slaughtered at their will. No warning, no sign. They watched without speaking a word as so many of their kin were swept away. Why had neither the leaders or medicine cats received visions? "It's not right." Badgerstar hissed sharply. "Starclan said nothing! And look at the result.. How many more times will we be able to endure their oversights? Moon after moon we wait desperately for something good to finally happen and all they ever give us is tragedy." He vented exasperatedly, though eventually leveling his temper. He sighed deeply. "At this rate we won't survive, Songthorn. Not through the winter. We have too little warriors and the floods have driven away nearly all of what little prey we had."
